Admission Requirements for the Academic Program

1. To apply for admission to LCJ's "Academic Program"

  • Application form (download here)
  • A Photocopy of Your High School Diploma (send together with application form)
  • Transcripts of High School Records in English (send together with application form)

    Transfer students also need to send transcripts of their college or university records. Transcripts in languages other than English need to be translated.

  • Reasonable High School Grades
  • A Statement of Purpose (send together with application form)

    Students should submit an essay of between 300 and 500 words stating their purpose for attending Lakeland College.

  • Photographs. Two portrait photos (4 cm x 3 cm)
  • Academic Scores and History

    Native English speakers should submit ACT or SAT scores, high school transcripts, transfer course grades, and/or have an international baccalaureate degree. No single score determines acceptance; rather, the school looks at a composite of an applicant’s academic history.

    Non-native English speakers should submit TOEFL test scores.  (school code 8962) 

    Minimum accepted scores are 500 for the paper TOEFL, 173 for the CBT and 61 for the iBT. Students who have scores below these minimal levels should apply to the EAP (English for Academic Purposes) program.

    Test scores should not be more than two years old.

    For students who REQUIRE
    an LCJ-sponsored student visa:


    In addition to the admission requirements above, international students in need of a student visa must also submit the following documents:

  • International Student Information Sheet. (downloadable PDF)
  • Passport Copies. You must submit two photocopies of your passport which include your legal name, birth date, photograph and passport number.
  • Photographs. Two portrait photos (4 cm x 3 cm).
  • Evidence of Financial Support
    • Financial Statement. This document pertains to the person sponsoring the student; in most cases it is a parent or spouse. An international student on a student visa cannot support himself or herself. The document should include approximate annual income, the estimated supporting amount and the relationship to the applicant. (downloadable PDF)
    • Bank Statement. The supporter should provide a bank statement showing he/she is capable of supporting the student. This document must be in English.

    Tuition and Fees for the Academic Program

    Entrance fee (one-time fee, applied for first semester only): ¥250,000
    Student Activity Board fee (once per year): ¥15,750
    Event fees (once per year): ¥15,750
    Tuition (per semester, based on 12-credits): ¥530,400
    Facility fee (per semester): ¥80,000
    Total (for first semester): ¥891,900
    ** International students enrolling with a full-time college visa will be awarded a 100,000 JPY scholarship for the first year of studies.  Please contact the LCJ Admissions Office for details.
