Clubs at LCJ

Each semester a new batch of clubs are started by students, funded by the Student Activities Board. You might find LCJ students practicing karate at nearby Toyama Park, or shopping for computer parts in Akihabara. Just in the past few semesters, we have had the Acoustic Guitar and the Ohana Hula Club (long-standing favorites), the International Club (which hold the annual International Festival) the Dance Club, Computer-making Club, Journalism Club, Museum & History Club, and the japanese Sub-culture Club. Common themese include music (the Dance, Music, and Gospel Choir Clubs) and sports (Rock-Climbing, Baseball, Badminton, Futsal, Tennis, Soccer, Volleyball, and Mixed Martial Arts Clubs). What's next is left up to you.

International Club

The growing number of international students from dozens of countries around the globe provide endless opportunities for exchange, not to mention field trips and other activities to enjoy the novelties of life in Japan.

Acoustic Guitar Club

Led by staff members Masa and Charlie, students with or without any experience at guitar learn how to play. Even the newest members learn enough in one semester to perform at the school's various functions and events, such as Arts Day Festival, Graduation, and the International Festival.

Dance Club

Salsa, ballroom, hip-hop, Latin fire--all forms of dance are explored by students who, when it comes right down to it, are just having tons of fun.

Hula Club

The Ohana Hula Club is one of our longest-standing dance groups. Performing at all the school festivals and ceremonies, this graceful troupe is a mainstay of LCJ student artistry and poise.

Climbing Club

Whether it's going to a local wall-climbing facility, or joining the group of incoming international students climbing Mount Fuji every August, Lakeland students like to rise above it all and enjoy the view from great heights.

Computer-Making Club

Students learn that making your own computer isn't as hard as it sounds like. After learning about the basic parts needed and how to choose what's best, students take a field trip to Tokyo's famous Akihabara district to buy everything needed to make an unique device. Computers, made with club funds, are provided for general student use in the computer lab.

Martial Arts Club

The LCJ Mixed Marital Arts Club is for all students with an interest in the martial arts, from beginner to advanced. The club has had members who practice several forms of Karate, Kick Boxing, Jyu-jitsu, and Wing Chun. The emphasis is on good health, mental focus, self-defense skills, and training for competition. Osu!

Sports Clubs

Using sports facilities throughout the Shinjuku area of Tokyo, Lakeland students get together to enjoy baseball, soccer, futsal, tennis, badminton, volleyball, and much more.
